LooptroopAlbums
BiographyLooptroop was formed in Vasteras, Sweden in 1992. The group consists of four main members: their producer and DJ Embee, the lyricists Cosmic, Promoe & Supreme. This famous hip-hop band was formed in 1992 by Promoe and Embee. They had met while attending school in Vasteras and they were inseparable all good and bad years of the group. Some months later after their meeting Dj Mc Marshall and Mc Marten recorded their first song, and many more were to come. Then they would team up with two other young guys from their hometown of Vasteras, Sweden and eventually take on the name Looptroop that now we can hear on every continent in the world. After Cosmic’ joining in 1993 the group independently and very succesfully released their cassette-only debut EP Superstars, which was followed in 1995 by Threesicksteez. Earlier, he used to be in another Vasteras crew called The Hot Dogs, and before that it was Groovy Soundsystem. "I remember seeing Cosmic battling some of his old crew members at a highschool disco", remember Promoe. "This was before I knew him, and I have a clear memory of how the kids he was battling were reading their lyrics off big pieces of paper on the stage floor while performing. I was not impressed", he said. "Supreme joined the crew some years later, says Embee, telling us how they met at different house parties around town. He was in a hardcore band called Aggressive Contrast and I invited him to to make a song, or rather kick a verse or two, at The Wax Cabinet. Up till this day he still refuses to listen to that first recording and even when we listen to old Looptroop songs that we recorded before he was in the group he runs out like his pants are on fire." Next they released their third cassette, From The Wax Cabinet in 1996, long-time associate and frequent collaborator Supreme had become a permanent member of the group. In 2000 they released their album Modern Day City Symphony that then will bring them that popularity they have now. In 2001, Promoe became the first member of the group that began a solo career, with his debut solo album Government Music. In 2002 Looptroop released their second album The Struggle Continues. Embee's solo album Tellings From Solitaria was released in 2004 and contains features from several notable Swedish artists such as Jose Gonzalez, Timbuktu and Daniel Lemma. The album was critically acclaimed and won a Swedish grammy award for best hip-hop/soul in 2004. Looptroop’s third full-length studio album Fort Europa was released in 2005. On February 9, 2007 Cosmic announced that he is leaving the group indefinitely. He said that there had been no falling-out between him and the rest of the group and mentioned that the group's busy schedule, which prevented him from spending time with his family, prompted this decision. Cosmic will still contribute to the group's upcoming 2008 album. They are currently working on a new album in English, which will be released april 2008 entitled “Good Things”, also the same year that DVSG will celebrate their tenth anniversary. Looptroop has earned a lot of popularity from extensive touring and a very powerful liveshow. Make sure you can see them on tour with their new album Fort Europa – dropping April 27 (from their cruel, money hungry agent’s statement you can tell that they’re in desperate need of your support). |
