American Pie

The music video for Madonna’s single American Pie released as the soundtrack to the film The Next Best Thing was shot In January, 2000 at a Twickenham studio in London, England. Philip Stolzl directed the filming and JP Fox worked as producer of the video.

Original version of American Pie was released by singer-songwriter Don McLean in 1971, so Madonna’s American Pie video pays a tribute to the seventies. The clip shows Madonna dancing on the stage while American flag is used as curtain and background. Creators divided the screen in two parts: one of them shows dancing Madonna and another one demonstrates pictures of common people life or both parts of the screen are showing the same scene, but from different perspectives. Here are girls on a beach, a man, a family, a football team, dancers, older women and so on. Scenes are different, but the only invariable thing is American flag appearing as background of all shots.

There are no shots from The Next Best Thing movie. Rupert Everett just has a short cameo in the American Pie video, in scenes where Madonna is sitting on his lap or they are having fun together.
